Ithaki,
is known to the world as being Ulysses' homeland. Its enchanting coves turn it into a paradise on earth despite its small size and mountainous nature. The west side of the island is steep and bare in contrast with the east which is verdant and slopes gently reaching the water.
The visitor can go on excursions to the traditional seaside villages, the medieval monastery of Taxiarhon and the wonderful caves of the island begging to be explored. Ithaki is a much loved place, with scenic beaches, sleepy little villages and it's definitely an ideal spot for an unforgettable vacation.

The port and capital of Vathi is dominated by its fortified Venetian harbor. Attractive old mansions rise up from the seafront, and the centre is a photo opportunity of twisting streets and picturesque cafes. The hills surrounding Vathi hide the wine-producing town of Perahori and abandoned Palaiohora, the island's original settlement, whose medieval houses and churches still bear traces of frescoes.
The old capital of Anogi is 14 km north of Vathi. It's surrounded by a monastery and lighthouse, and goat-filled roads that wind past vineyards, and its highlight is the frescoed Byzantine church of Agia Panagia.
The island's archaeological history is displayed in a museum at Stavros, northwest of Vathi, and believed to be the site of Ulysses' palace. On the northeast, there's the depopulated fishing port of Frikes, one of the island's major ferry ports. Kioni, gorgeously draped around a green hillside spilling down to a tiny harbor, is a secret hideaway with a few taverns and bars, but its beaches are bettered by those dotting the bays heading back towards Frikes.
